Must-read books of all time on self-development

Personal development consists of activities that develop a person's skills and potential, build human capital, facilitate employability and improve the quality of life and the realization of dreams and aspirations. Personal development can occur throughout a person's life and is not limited to a particular stage of life. It can include formal and informal actions to develop others in roles such as teacher, leader, counselor, manager, coach, or mentor, and is not limited to self-help. When personal development occurs in the context of institutions, it refers to the methods, programs, tools, techniques, and assessment systems offered to support the positive development of adults at the individual level in organizations.

Here are 5 books based on self-development:

1.  The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Author: Stephen R. Covey.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, first published in 1989, is a business and self-help book by Stephen R. Covey. Covey presents an approach to effectively achieving goals by aligning with what he calls "true north" based on an ethic of character that he presents as universal and timeless.

Covey defines effectiveness as the balance between achieving desirable results and caring about what produces those results. He illustrates this by referring to the fable of the goose that lays golden eggs. He further asserts that effectiveness can be expressed in terms of the ratio P/ PC, where P refers to achieving desired outcomes and PC is caring for what produces the outcomes.

[2] In 1934, Leon Shimkin from the publisher Simon & Schuster took one of Carnegie's 14-week courses on human relations and public speaking; [2] afterward, Shimkin persuaded Carnegie to have a stenographer take notes of the course to be revised for publication. The first five thousand copies [2] of the book sold exceptionally well, reaching 17 editions in the first year alone.

3.   THINK AND GROW RICH.

Author: Napoleon Hill.

Think and Grow Rich is based on Hill's earlier work The Law of Success, which is said to be the result of more than twenty years of study of many individuals who had amassed personal fortunes. This book is for the self-development of readers.

Hill examined their habits and came up with some 16 "laws" that one can apply to achieve success. Think and Grow Rich summarizes these and gives the reader 14 principles in the form of a "philosophy of success." The book claims that desire, belief, and perseverance can propel one to great heights if one can suppress negative thoughts and focus on long-term goals.

4.   Rich Dad Poor Dad.

Author: Robert Kiyosaki, Sharon Lechter.

Rich Dad Poor Dad is a self-development book written in 1997 by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter. It advocates the importance of financial literacy, financial independence, and building wealth by investing in assets, investing in real estate, starting and owning businesses, and increasing one's financial intelligence.

Rich Dad Poor Dad is written in the style of a series of parables supposedly based on Kiyosaki's life. [1] The titular "rich father" is supposedly his friend's father, who accumulated wealth through entrepreneurship and shrewd investing, while the "poor father" is supposedly Kiyosaki's own father, who he says worked hard all his life but never achieved financial security. However, no one has ever proven that Rich Dad, the man who supposedly gave Kiyosaki all his advice on how to live a wealthy life, ever existed. Nor has anyone ever documented that Kiyosaki acquired vast reserves of wealth before Rich Dad Poor Dad was published in 1997.
